About the Event
CSC Global Alumni in partnership with CSC UK hosted the launch of the Global Leadership Series in Kenya on the 27th of October 2021. Our guest speaker was Ambassador (Dr.) Amina C. Mohamed, EGH, CAV, Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Sports, Culture and Heritage in Kenya.
The event was the first known alumni event held in Africa for CSC alumni.
One hundred and twenty-four (124) CSC alumni from 25 Commonwealth Countries registered for the event via video link and thirty-two (32) in person guests to attend the event held at Emara Hotel Ole Sereni in Nairobi, Kenya.
Special guest Ambassador (Dr.) Amina C. Mohamed, EGH, CAV, Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Sports, Culture and Heritage discussed the role of sports, culture and heritage in creating sustainable communities.

Meet the Guest Speaker
Ambassador (Dr.) Amina C. Mohamed, EGH, CAV
Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Sports, Culture and Heritage in Kenya
Amb. (Dr.) Amina Mohamed is a Kenyan lawyer and diplomat currently serving as the Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Culture and Heritage in the Republic of Kenya. She is an accomplished international civil servant, who has distinguished herself in both public and foreign service, working on a wide range of global issues including environmental policy, sustainable development and international trade.
Before her appointment to the Ministry of Sports, Amb. Mohamed held the positions of Cabinet Secretary for Education (2018 – 2019), and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs (2013 – 2018). Earlier, as the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Justice, National Cohesion and Constitutional Affairs, she was instrumental in the legal and institutional reforms, that took place in Kenya from 2008 to 2011, including the constitutional review process that culminated in the promulgation of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010.
A legal expert and practitioner in domestic and international law, Amb. Mohamed has also held various high-level international leadership positions, including United Nations Assistant Secretary General and Deputy Executive Director of the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) (2011 – 2013). During her tenure, she spearheaded the implementation of UNEP’s Medium-Term Strategy and reforms. She also served as Kenya’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva (2000 – 2006), where she was the first woman to chair the African Group at the World Trade Organisation (WTO).
Her outstanding service has earned her various awards, including the prestigious Adebisi Babatunde Thomas Entrepreneurship Institute Excellence in Diplomacy Award, the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun (Government of Japan), an honorary knighthood by the Italian Government, and Kenya’s highest national award of Elder of the Golden Heart.
Amb. Mohamed holds a Master’s degree in International Law from Kiev State University, and additional post-graduate qualifications from the University of Oxford and the Kenya School of Law.

About the Organisers
The first CSC Global Leadership Series in Africa held in Nairobi, Kenya was organised by a small hardworking committee including CSC Global Alumni Directors Peter Laurent, John Thompson and Alex Amolloh, local organiser and CSC alumni Patricia Muia.
