The Duke of Edinburgh’s Commonwealth Study Conferences (CSC) are pleased to announce the next CSC Global Leadership Series will be on Wednesday the 23rd of February 2023 from 10:30 am London time.

Our next event will address the theme of “The Next Generation of Farming – Sustainably maintaining high quality food production while meeting the challenge of climate change” and will be held at Coutts Bank in London in the presence of CSC President, HRH The Princess Royal.

Our special guest speaker will be Sir Nicholas Bacon Bt. OBE DL, Chairman of the Royal Agricultural Society of the Commonwealth who will join a panel including CSC UK’s Sir Alan Parker and Peter Flavel to discuss the future of farming. Our esteemed panel will be joined by three young emerging leaders from Canada, Singapore and Zambia who are part of the Royal Agricultural Society of the Commonwealth’s Next Generation committee to address the future possibilities and challenges of the next generation of farming.

Sir Nicholas (Nico) Bacon Bt OBE DL

Chair of RASC. Sir Nicholas lives with his family in Norfolk on their agricultural holding which includes forestry and an open garden. Outside agriculture he has established companies specialising in insurance and lifts. He is Chair of The Queen’s Green Canopy and the Plant Health Alliance. He was President of the Royal Horticultural Society from 2013 to 2020.

Mr Peter Flavel

Vice Chair of CSC UK & CEO of Coutts & Co. Mr Flavel joined Coutts as CEO in 2016. Under his leadership, Coutts has undergone significant transformation
across all of the Bank’s key performance targets. He has over 30 years’ financial services experience across most of the world. He is a member of the Philanthropy Advisory Committee of the Royal Albert Hall and joined the Board of CSC UK in 2018.

Sir Alan Parker CVO

Chair of CSC UK & Chairman of Brunswick Group LLP, an advisory firm specializing in business critical issues. Sir Alan was Chair of Save the Children UK (2008 to 2015) and Chair of Save the Children International (2016-2018). He was a trustee of The Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Trust. He was knighted in 2014 for services to business, charitable giving and philanthropy. He has chaired CSC UK since 2012.

Mr Eng Tok Ching Kenny (Kenny Eng) in Singapore

As Director of Gardenasia Pte Ltd, Mr Eng leads his team of GA Experience Consultants to bring people closer to nature through naturally-inspired curated experiences. He is of the fourth generation of his family’s horticulture business. He drums up support for local farmers through The Local Farm brand online and with tours and farm packs. He helped organise the 2016 RASC conference in Singapore.

Ms Anna Nawa in Zambia

Ms Nawa works as a farmer and also as a trainer of trainers for farmers concerning business plans and new agricultural concepts such as hybrid crops. She is a leader in getting agriculture attention in Zambia: she and her colleagues got the President involved and attracted the RASC to hold its 2 yearly conference in Lusaka in 2012. She is a Marshall Papworth Scholar.

Ms Léona Watson in Yukon Territory, Canada

Ms Watson is the eldest of five daughters raised on a crop and cattle farm in Alberta, Canada. Together they learned the values of hard work, perseverance and gratitude. She graduated from Olds College with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Agribusiness and in 2011 was awarded a Canadian Nuffield Scholarship. Since then, she’s set her roots north of the 60th parallel, in the Yukon Territory as a wife, mother, homesteader, farmer and outfitter. She strives to breakdown the barriers within Canada’s circumpolar agricultural community and will share her northern perspective.
